Pinch Pot Wishing Wells
1st graders will be able to create a wishing well or wishing machine by making a pinch pots and learning different clay techniques (coil, slab, adding textures).
Students will reflect on their favorite memory of the past year and think of a wish for the new year (2023).

What is a Wishing Well?
Students think about wishing wells they have seen in pop culture and in real life. They learn about why people use them and come up with their own wish for the new year.

Symbol Creation
Students discuss what symbols are and create a symbol they can use to represent their wish for the year.

Pinch Pots
After practicing clay techniques (coils, slabs, balls) with model magic, students create wishing wells by making a pinch pot. They draw their symbol to represent their wish and add textures using different objects.
04
Final Wishing Wells
Students glaze their wishing wells using one color and use their wishing wells to project their wish for the year.
