Woven Dreamcatchers

4th graders will be able to learn about the cultural history on dreamcatchers and how to weave using yarn and ribbons to manifest their dreams.

Students think about their dreams for the future to guide their art making process

History / Artist Exemplars

Students will be able to learn about the cultural history on dreamcatchers and how to weave using yarn and ribbons to manifest their dreams

We discuss Native American stereotypes and make sure we are being respectful of different cultures.

Brainstorm

Students will look at color to learn about identity and dreams using a mind map to  meaningfully pick their ribbons and yarn.

Students think about their dreams for the future and what they want to project through the center of their dream catcher

Weaving

Students weave using a CD as a loom and three different pieces of yarn. Students use an A/B Pattern or an under/over pattern to weave their needle through the warp.

Ribbons

Students finalize their dream catchers by adding colored ribbons that fits within their brainstorming. Students share their dreams with each other.
